Phantoms' Veltri shuts out Buccaneers
DES MOINES, IOWA
Chad Veltri stopped 27 shots as the Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers, 3-0, on Saturday.
The win gives the Phantoms a weekend split after Friday’s 5-2 loss.
Tristan Amonte, Ben Schoen and Joey Abate scored for the Phantoms.
Phantoms penalty killers were busy but didn’t allow a goal even though the Buccaneers had eight opportunities with the man-advantage.
Aiden Gallacher set up Amonte’s goal about three minutes into the game.
Schoen connected on the power play about six minutes later. Liam Dennison and Connor MacEachern assisted.
Early in the second period, Abate scored another power-play goal. This one was set up by Liam Robertson and Jayson Dobay.
The win lifts the Phantoms (23-18-1-3, 50 points into fourth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference, one ahead of Dubuque.
The Phantoms will conclude their road trip today against Central Illinois.
