DIVISION I

Boardman’s Basista finishes eighth in Ohio

CANTON

At C.T. Branin Natatorium, Boardman swimmer Noah Basista finished eight in the state meet. His time of 56.4 was his second-best ever. Boardman’s 200-yard freestyle relay team (Basista, Mason Rassega, Will Linker, Matthew DuLany) finished 13th. Their time was 1:26.2. Boardman’s 400 freestyle relay team (Linker, Jordan Stackpole, DunLany, Basista) finished 15th with a time of 3:10.45. Carlo Cordon, Boardman’s swim coach, said the state meet was incredibly fast, with records set in 10 of the 24 events. Cordon said the relay teams finished with their second-best times. Their fastest came in Friday’s qualifying. “We’re pretty happy,” Cordon said.

Austintown Fitch’s Seebacher qualifies for state tournament

OAKWOOD VILLAGE

Austintown Fitch senior Renee Seebacher placed eighth among individuals in the district tournament Saturday and qualified for the state tournament. Seebacher rolled games of 174, 207, and 204 for a 585 series. In addition to qualifying for the state tournament on March 8 in Columbus, Seebacher’s eighth-place finish earned her a spot on the all-district team. No other Valley individuals or teams qualified for state. Warren Harding was eighth among teams, but only the top six qualified. Boardman’s Lexus Petrich (166-186-180—532) placed 16th among individuals. Harding’s Zoey Schoolcraft (178-146-200—524) and Isabella Frazzini (233-150-139—522) were 17th and 19th, respectively. The Austintown Fitch boys team and Niles individual qualifier Nathan Zook will compete in the district tournament today at Roseland Lanes. The Falcons will be represented by Seth Harper, who won the individual sectional title, along with Larry Iagulli, Domenic Veltri, Vincent Desiato, Dane Smith, Preston Miller, Cedric Ross and Kevin Cox.

BEAVER TOWNSHIP

Bree Kohler scored 16 points to lead the Raiders to the sectional championship. Izzy Lamparty contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bri Modic also netted 13 points. South Range advances to the Struthers district and will play Southeast on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.

Salem 66, Springfield 30

SALEM

Kyla Jamison had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the top-seeded Quakers (18-5). Jaden Hamilton contributed 10 points and three rebounds. Echo Mayer-Kutz had eight points and four steals while Annie Davidson had seven points and two assists. Ellie Davidson had four points, 11 rebounds and two assists, Salem will play fifth-seeded Liberty on Wednesday at the Struthers dict tournament. For the Tigers (13-11), Ellie Centofanti led with eight points.

LaBrae 72, Warrensville Heights 70

LEAVITTSBURG

Marissa Roberts scored 22 points to lead LaBrae. Alexis Huscroft added 15 for the Vikings. Olivia Williams and Jenna Reppart also reached double figures with 14 points each. Bintou Traore led Warrensville Heights with 23 points and Lamya Ford added 21. LaBrae will take on Newton Falls Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at Lakeview.

NEWTON FALLS

Allison Sembach scored 14 points and Bree Hutson 10 to lead the Tigers, who advance to the Lakeview district to play LaBrae or Warrensville Heights on Wednesday. Libby Barreca contributed eight points and seven rebounds and Alyssa Dangerfield seven points and six rebounds. Alexa Harkins led Mineral Ridge with 24 points.

Rachel neer scored 14 points for Southeast. Haley Morehead added 12. Crestview was led by Tanner Hoffer with 12 points.

LISBON

Ashley Cameron scored 14 points and made 10 rebounds for the Blue Jays (12-12). Grace McDevitt scored 12 points and Abigail Spalding 10. The Blue Jays advance to the Mineral Ridge district where they will play top-seeded McDonald on Wednesday. In the regular season, McDonald defeated Jackson-Milton by scores of 36-26 and 43-35. For the Blue Devils (17-7), Hailee Carpenter and Maddie Liberati each scored 10 points.

Bella Zirzow led the Panthers with 18 points and seven rebounds. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 16-4 in the final quarter. Kendyl Switzer scored 10. For the Eagles, Danielle Bradley scored 19 points and Caitlyn Condoleon 18.

MCDONALD

Sophia Constantino led McDonald (21-2) with 27 points. Olivia Perry added 19 and Molly Howard had 11 for the Blue Devils. Valley Christian was led by Kristen Gill with 19 points and Nesylan Taylor with 10. McDonald will take on Jackson-Milton on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Mineral Ridge.

Dani Vuletich scored 18 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for Western Reserve (20-3). Kennedy Miller added 13 points and seven assists. Leetonia was led by Sarah Ferry with 11 points. Western Reserve will take on Brookfield on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at Mineral Ridge.
