SOFTBALL

Ursuline’s Caldrone to play for John Carroll

YOUNGSTOWN

Ursuline high school senior Gia Caldrone has selected John Carroll University to continue her academic studies and softball career. A daughter of Christine and Angelo Caldrone of Girard, she is the class president and holds a 3.76 grade-point average. At John Carroll, Caldrone plans to focus her studies on business/sports management. Michael Kernan, Ursuline’s softball coach since 2002, says Caldrone has been Ursuline’s “most prolific hitter over a three-year span.” Caldrone is a two-year captain and has been the No. 3 hitter since her freshman year. In each of her three seasons, she’s been first or second in batting average, doubles, RBIs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
