West Branch’s Robb sets state record in 100 breaststroke
CANTON
West Branch junior Jamyson Robb — the top-seeded swimmer in the 100-yard breaststroke — set a Division II state meet record in the event on Thursday during preliminaries at C.T. Branin Natatorium. Robb swam a time of 1:02.21 to establish an Ohio state-meet record in the event. Logan Lawhorn of Baltimore Liberty Union had the second-fastest prelim time at 1:02.52. Robb also qualified 11th in the 200 individual medley at 2:08.42. Howland sophomore Jared Mindek qualified third in the boys 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.81. Canfield’s two relay teams also competed in prelims Thursday and qualified sixth (200 freestyle, 1:29.23) and eighth (400 freestyle, 3:17.73). The Cardinals’ 200 freestyle relay consists of Bobby Kutsch, James Dietz, Matthew Peckman and Jason Paris. Kutsch, Luke Dietz, Peckman and Paris make up Canfield’s 400 freestyle relay. Paris was 15th in the 50 freestyle (22.15). Poland senior Mark Lanterman — the first boys state qualifier in the program’s history — was 19th in the 100 freestyle (49.97). The state meet continues today with Division I prelims at 9 a.m. and Division II finals at 5 p.m. The Division I finals are at 4 p.m. Saturday.
