The Michael Kusalaba Library teamed up with the Entrepreneurship Center at Youngstown State University for the Understanding Your Business Plan event.
Business Librarian Edward Koltonski organized the event, and was present to discuss library resources available to local business owners.
“The library is a great tool that not everyone utilizes,” Koltonski said.
Entrepreneurship Center Director Joseph Angelo spoke at the event, offering advice and information to community members interested in starting a business.
Community members present were at a range of places in their business planning, from having a business plan they are trying to rewrite, to just having an idea.
“I am not your typical professor,” Angelo said. “I don’t have a Ph.D., what I have is a lot of entrepreneurial experience.”
Angelo has been involved in a range of projects, including Flash Seats.
He currently works part time at YSU, along with continuing to work with local businesses.
During the event Angelo explained to community members the best way to outline a business plan.
He walked them through, step by step, analyzing the different parts of a business plan and why each of them matter. “You want to convey a sense of excitement, and what do investors want? A return.” Angelo said.
He gave advice on a range of topics throughout his presentation, including how to conduct market research and the importance of analyzing traffic patterns.
“If you can’t lick a stamp and mail it to your customers, you don’t know who they are,” Angelo said.
He also explained the importance of utilizing the resources available through the library’s Business and Investment Center.
“Business librarians are the rock stars of the library world,” Angelo said. “I send all of my students to the center at the Main library.”
The Business and Investment Center is located on the third floor of the PLYMC Main Library, located at 305 Wick Ave.
