American Association of University Women Youngstown Branch will meet from 10 a.m. to noon March 2 at the First Presbyterian Church – Helen Chapel, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Leah Sakacs, will speak about the retired and senior volunteer program for Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association is celebrating 100 years of amateur radio this year. The club is asking any former members or anyone with information about former members to reply. First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will host the Rev. James Korda, president of CTNY for the Diocese of Youngstown, at 11:30 a.m. March 7 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the presentation will follow. The Rev. Friendly Squares Dance Club will host a dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. March 9 at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller, and Frankie Hammond will be cuing the line dances. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual, and light refreshments will be served. The Trumbull County Travel Club will sponsor a motor coach mini vacation to Holland, Mich., from May 7 to 9. Holland, located on Lake Macatawa, plants millions of blooming tulips which will greet members in this town, named the “Best Small Town Festival” in the USA. Reflecting on the area’s Dutch heritage, Windmill Island is on the itinerary as well as the DeKlomp Wooden Shoe & Delft Factory tour. There will be time to experience traditional Klompen, photograph the Big Red Lighthouse and sit in comfortable seats for the Volksparade. Two breakfasts and two dinners are included along with the Fiddle Fire Show and the Dazzle Dinner Theater. The Travel Club is open to any person 21 or older who wishes to travel and make new friends. There are no fees to join. Members meet twice a year at area sites to discuss upcoming trips. All trips leave from one site and use motor coaches, trains, air and sometimes incorporate cruising. There are seven seats remaining on the April trip and 15 on the June trip.

Youngstown Chapter of The Links Inc. will host its Black Diamond Leadership Brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Embassy, 5030 Youngstown-Poland Road, Youngstown. The brunch will honor the accomplishments of African American male leaders in the Mahoning Valley.

POLITICAL GROUPS

Trumbull County Republican Party will host its annual Lincoln Day dinner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at DiLucia’s Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road, Warren. Guest speaker will be Justice Sharon L. Kennedy of the Ohio Supreme Court. A buffet dinner with prime rib carving station will take place at 6 and there will be an open bar. “President Lincoln” will make a guest appearance. Youngstown South Christian Women’s Connection will host “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 13 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The event will feature a representative from Blue Diamond Resorts in the Caribbean. Ginny McQueen will provide the music, and Annie McQuate will speak. Her talk will be “Holding Hands, Holding Hearts.” Cost is $14, which includes lunch. Reservations are required by March 6; cancellations are necessary. SOCIETIES

National Slovak Society, Local Assembly 731, will meet at 1 p.m. March 2 at the Boardman Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. Election of officers will take place. Members are asked to share ideas and details to help plan assembly fraternal activities for the year. Youth members are invited to attend and offer input about youth activities. Lunch will be served. Struthers Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. March 3 at the museum, 50 Terrace St. Members are asked to take old photographs to be scanned for the museum for “Scanning Sunday.” The public is invited to take in photographs of old buildings and businesses that no longer are open to scan for the archives. F.O.C.U.S. Breast Cancer Survivors Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at The Manor, 3104 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown. For directions, call The Manor at 330-318-8060. All breast-cancer survivors and their support system are welcome.

Grief Recovery Instructional Support Groups meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home Care Center, next to the funeral home, on Main Street in Hubbard. The groups are led by Phillip Roland, grief counselor for the funeral home, and are open to anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers a Connections support group that meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court, Austintown. NAMI Mahoning Valley also offers Family Support Groups that provide information and support for family members and friends of individuals with mental illness. Family groups meet the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St.; and the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Alta Care.
