Boys swim team wins Akron Sectionals

The Canfield High School boys swim team won the DII Akron Sectional Championships on Feb. 8.

Top two in each event automatically qualify to go to Districts.

All three of the relays automatically qualified to the District tournament at Cleveland State University. The 200 yard medley relay team of Connor Fritz, Joe Klepec, Rob DiDomenico and Matthew Peckman was second with a time of 1:45.59. The 200 yard free relay team of Bobby Kutsch, James Dietz, Peckman and Jason Paris was first with a time of 1:30.90. The 400 yard free relay team of Kutsch, James Dietz, Luke Dietz and Paris was first with a time of 3:22.56.

DiDomenico was sixth in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.37) and third in the 500 yard freestyle (5:11.04). Luke Dietz was fourth in the 200 yard individual medley (2:06.79) and fourth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.01). Paris won the 50 yard freestyle (22.19) and was sixth in the 100 yard freestyle (50.18). Kutsch was fifth in the 50 free (22.77) and third in the 100 fly (56.04). Peckman was sixth in the 50 free (22.79) and 13th in the 100 free (52.91). James Dietz was eighth in the 50 free (23.49) and also in the 100 free (51.91). Fritz was second in the 100 back (56.62). Ty Schaab was seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.88) and 21st in the 100 free (55.86). Joe Klepec was 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.98) and 18th in the 200 individual medley (2:18.33). Nick Colonna was 21st in the 100 back (1:07.67).

District qualifiers included DiDomenico in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle; James Dietz in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Luke Dietz in the 400 free relay, 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke; Fritz in the 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke; Klepec in the 200 medley relay and 100 breaststroke; Kutsch in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Paris in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Peckman in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and Schaab in the 100 breaststroke.
