UPDATE | Southbound I-680 access to turnpike now open

NORTH LIMA

Southbound lanes on Interstate 680 in Beaver Township have re-opened, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Crews spent five hours cleaning leaked fuel from the roadway and performing repairs, according to ODOT spokesman Justin Chesnic.

A semi-truck driver hauling two trailers that went off the road just before 6 a.m. Friday, shearing several feet of guardrail, was uninjured, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He told troopers he was unsure what caused his vehicle to go off the road, dispatchers said.

The truck leaked diesel fuel into the roadway, which led the road to be closed for several hours Friday morning as hazmat crews cleaned, Chesnic said. The crash spilled over into a roadside construction site, which may also have complicated the cleanup, dispatchers said.

Traffic had been rerouted to Western Reserve Road.
