Weather changes softball schedule

CHARLOTTE, N.C.

Due to forecasted inclement weather during the Charlotte First Pitch Classic, the Youngstown State softball team will face No. 14 South Carolina in a single game on Saturday at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

The Penguins also will play Charlotte and Winthrop on Sunday in Charlotte. YSU will face Charlotte at 10 a.m. and Winthrop at noon.

Tickets for women’s tourney game on sale

Youngstown

Tickets for the Youngstown State women’s basketball team’s quarterfinal game at Beeghly Center in the 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship will go on sale Friday.

The quarterfinal contest on Rosselli Court will be on March 6. Tip time will be announced at a future date.

Reserved and general admission tickets for the game will cost $10 and YSU students will receive a free general admission ticket with a valid ID.

Penguin Club members and season ticket holders have until March 5 at 5 p.m. to renew their seats before they are released for sale.

Area high school or youth basketball teams interested in attending the game should contact the YSU Athletic Ticket Office for potential complimentary tickets.

Spirit squads tryouts April 14

Youngstown

The Youngstown State spirit squads will hold tryouts for the 2019-20 athletic campaign on April 14 at Beeghly Center.

Full-time students for the 2019 fall semester are eligible to try out.

Tryouts will be held in the gymnastics room located directly below the basketball court.

Current YSU students who attend the tryout must be in good academic standing.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and anyone participating must provide a list of cheerleading experience and a filled out Cheerleading Application form.

A class is set from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tryouts will begin following lunch.

Those attending the tryout should wear shorts, t-shirts or tank top and cheer/tennis shoes.
