Lorain man held for parole violation after shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Eddie Ortiz, 27, of Lorain is being held in the Mahoning County jail on a parole violation following treatment for gunshot wounds in a Tuesday-morning shooting in Warren.

Aaron Staggers, 33, of Peace Avenue Northwest was found dead, apparently of gunshot wounds, at a home in the 800 block of Woodbine Avenue Southeast when police arrived for a 1:59 a.m. call.

Ortiz was taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. He was booked into the Mahoning County jail Wednesday, apparently after being released from the hospital.

No one has been charged in Staggers’ death.

Ortiz was sentenced to a year in prison in March 2017 after being convicted in Lorain County of two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one of obstructing official business, according to Lorain County Common Pleas Court records.

He was released from prison last November but is wanted for violating the terms of his parole, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabiltation and Correction,

He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2011 on other Lorain County criminal cases that included aggravated robbery.
