YSU tennis falls to Binghamton


CLEVELAND

The Youngstown State men’s tennis team suffered a 4-2 setback to Binghamton on Sunday at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion at Cleveland State.

The Penguins (3-4) picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles against the Bearcats (5-4).

In doubles, the Penguins picked up a win at No. 1 as Joao Garretto and Danylo Veremeichuk picked up a 7-5 win. The decisive match was at No. 2 where Luke Purser and Vasilis Vardakis lost a tough 7-6 (5) match. Binghamton won 6-1 at No. 3 to claim the point.

Vardakis and Yossi Dahan picked up wins to give the Guins a 2-1 advantage. At No. 3, Vardakis had an impressive 7-5, 6-2 win over Dylan Friedman while at No. 5, Dahan won 6-1, 6-2 against Inigo Saez.

YSU lost tough three-set contests at No. 2 and No. 6. With the match tied 2-2, Binghamton’s Kushaan Nath beat Garretto 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 to give the Bearcats a lead. BU clinched the match when Alejandro Pena beat Erik Gran 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
