UPDATE | Woman dies; husband faces new charges


YOUNGSTOWN — Investigators confirmed that a woman who was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with a traumatic brain injury was pronounced dead today.

The woman, Ryan Weaver-Hymes, is the city’s third homicide victim of the year and the second within a week.

Her husband, Jason Hymes, 46, was arrested Thursday on a charge of felonious assault and arraigned earlier today in municipal court an given a bond of $100,000.

Police were called to the hospital Thursday after the victim’s injuries were discovered and Jason Hymes was arrested after he was interviewed by detectives. Several witnesses were also interviewed.

Jason Hymes is currently in the Mahoning County jail. Charges against him are expected to be upgraded.

All three homicide victims in the city this year are women and the last two homicides have been a result of a domestic violence incident.
