Trent Frazier had 15 points and Ayo Dosunmu buried a key 3-pointer with 29 seconds remaining as Illinois held off Ohio State for its fourth win in a row. Dosunmu also scored 15 points and Giorgi Bezhanishvili added 13 for the Illini (10-15, 6-8 Big Ten), who won their first true road game of the season. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Buckeyes (16-8, 6-7), who committed 18 turnovers leading to 14 Illini points. Dosunmu made two free throws to give Illinois the lead for good with 8:15 to play and his 3-pointer three minutes later made it 51-46. Luther Muhammad hit two foul shots to pull the Buckeyes within three with 57 seconds left but Dosunmu, who scored nine points in the final eight-plus minutes, answered with a 3. C.J. Jackson led Ohio State with 17 points, but he also had seven turnovers. Brothers Kaleb and Andre Wesson contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Ohio State shot just 36 percent. Bezhanishvili had just two points in the first half but scored Illinois’ first seven points of the second. Illinois shot 44 percent from the field. Keyshawn Woods, who scored 18 points in Ohio State’s Dec. 5 win against Illinois, was held to just three points.

No. 9 Houston 71, UConn 63

HARTFORD, CONN.

DeJon Jarreau had 18 points and seven assists to help Houston capture its ninth straight victory. Armoni Brooks added 12 points for the Cougars (24-1, 11-1 American Athletic Conference). They opened the second half with a 17-4 run to take control. Christian Vital had 15 points for UConn (13-12, 4-8). The Huskies have lost three straight since a knee injury took out scoring leader Jalen Adams. Jarreau’s driving layup gave Houston a 17-point lead with just over 71/2 minutes to go. UConn cut it to 61-55 after a 3-pointer by Sidney Wilson and a free throw from Christian Vital. Another driving layup by Jarreau, followed by a steal and two foul shots from Cedrick Alley Jr. brought the lead back to double digits. The Huskies failed to capitalize on 21 Houston fouls, going 14 of 25 from the line.

Kent State 82, Western Michigan 63

Jaylin Walker had 25 points for Kent State. Mitch Peterson had 17 points for Kent State (18-6, 7-4 Mid-American Conference). Philip Whittington added 17 points and 13 rebounds. Anthony Roberts had 14 points for the visitors.Kent State totaled 51 second-half points, a season best for the team. Josh Davis had 17 points for the Broncos (7-18, 1-11). Michael Flowers added 15 points. Seth Dugan had 12 points.

Antoine Davis had 27 points for Detroit. Josh McFolley added 22 points for the Titans. Harrison Curry had 15 points for Detroit (10-16, 7-7 HL), which broke its four-game road losing streak. Derrien King added 12 points. DeAndre Abram had 28 points and six rebounds for the Panthers (9-17, 4-9), who have now lost six games in a row. Darius Roy added 16 points and six assists. Tank Hemphill tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Green Bay. Kam Hankerson had 13 points and six rebounds for Green Bay (13-13, 7-6 HL). Sandy Cohen III added 10 points and five steals. JayQuan McCloud, the Phoenix’s second leading scorer heading into the matchup at 14 points per game, failed to make a shot from the floor (0 of 6). Oakland totaled 22 points in the first half, a season low for the team. Brad Brechting had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (11-16, 7-7). Xavier Hill-Mais added 14 points and nine rebounds. He also had seven turnovers.

WOMEN

Ohio State 59, No. 23 Rutgers 39

PISCATAWAY, N.J.

Adreana Miller had 14 points with three 3-pointers, Carly Santoro scored 12 points, and Ohio State dominated Rutgers. The Buckeyes (11-12, 7-7 Big Ten) never trailed in the game and closed the first quarter on a 17-1 run to lead 23-6 at the end of the period. From there, the Scarlet Knights (17-7, 9-4) got the deficit no closer than 38-24 midway through the third quarter. Janai Crooms had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Dorka Juhasz had nine points and 13 rebounds for Ohio State. Stasha Carey had nine points and 10 rebounds, and Arella Guirantes had nine points and nine boards for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights made just 26 percent from the field, 10 percent from the arc, in losing their third in a row.
