Club will sponsor YSU professor

The Youngstown Torch Club will sponsor a presentation about the joys of poetry at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in Kilcawley Center’s Hynes Room at Youngstown State University. Dr. Floyd Barger will host “Poetry from Our School Days,” a discussion of popular and classic poems that were once part of almost everyone’s educational experience. Barger will share impressions of poems ranging from childhood favorites to enduring classics. He will also recite a few of his favorite works from Joyce Kilmer, James Whitcomb Riley, Bret Harte and Robert Service.

Dr. Barger is a professor emeritus with YSU’s mathematics department. He served as a full-time professor at the university between 1970 and 2008. The Youngstown Torch Club is an organization of professional people who gather once a month to listen to a paper presentation while sharing dinner, fellowship and conversation.
