Valley sends 11 bowling teams to districts


Six boys teams, five girls teams to go bowling at districts

Six boys bowling teams and five girls teams advanced to districts following the Mahoning and Lake-Trumbull Division II sectionals Sunday at Freeway Lanes in Warren.

Girard (3,867), Hubbard (3,501), Struthers (3414) and LaBrae (3200) qualified for the district bowling tournament on the boys side in the Mahoning tournament.

Girard’s Jonathon Moore rolled 575 to win, 11 pins ahead of teammate Brett Zeigler. Other Girard bowlers were Donny Bishop, Dylan Puz and Logan Barta.

Hubabrd’s bowlers were David Dull, Derrick Cobbin, Tyler Notman, Austin Stere and John Jacobs. Struthers bowlers were Jared Medvec, Johnny Morris, Sean Lane, Brandon Fulytar, Anthony Bennett, Kolton Blough and Nick Peskor.

LaBrae’s bowlers were Lucas Lancaster, Matthew Goldner, Tanner Noble, Josh bates and James Schick. Individual qualifiers were Wellsville’s Cole Corbin (562), McDonald’s Dan Barker (554), Brookfield’s Shawn Hitt (537) and Liberty’s Brennan Romain (522).

Lakeview won with a 3,792 and Champion came in fourth with 3,387 in the boys Trumbull sectional.

Charles Pawlosky finished first with a 630. Connor Pawlosky, Jon Olson, Michael Altier and Seth Dunn also represented the Bulldogs.

Nate McKean led Champion with a 548 while Matt Horvat, Willis Howell, Johnny Hohvart, Matt Angell and Gary Pirrung also appeared for the Golden Flashes.

Maplewood’s Cody Farmer was the only individual qualifer on the boys side. He recorded a 528.

For the girls, Struthers, Hubbard, Girard and Lowellville advanced in the Mahoning tournament. Struthers won with a 3,231 while the Eagles (3,214), Indians (3,162) and Rockets (2,899) rounded out the top four.

Struthers’ Delaney Baber won with 527. Struthers’ other bowlers were Madison Stanton, Hannah Hoffman, Elizabeth Dragus, Hayley Horkey, Hailey DeGenaro, Sara Hill and Kiara Bankhead.

Hubbard’s bowlers were Jenna Reebel, Brooke Papini, Amber Davis, Bethany Jones, Maggie Lewis and Bree Valley. Girard’s bowlers were Rachel Foreback, Maddie Moore, Cierra Anzelmo, Heidi Trautman, Taylor Tillman, Natalie Kazda and Autaum McGuire. Lowellville’s bowlers were Haylie Rotz, Paige Lanterman, Emma Mariotti, Savannah Dutton and Alexis Biscella,

McDonald’s Jenna Simmons (516), Brookfield’s Emilee Bebech (466), LaBrae’s Molly Jones (464) and Liberty’s Makenzie McBride (462) qualified as individuals.

Champion won the Trumbull tournament with 2,868. The Golden Flashes were the only local team to qualify.

Ashley Nicholas finished fifth with a 498. Megan Crevier, Hailee Wilson, Mikayla Bloom, Rebekkah Angell and Kate Huffman also appeared for Champion.

Maplewood’s Elana Caraballo (512) and Courtney Hubbard (488) qualified as individuals.

The Division II girls district will be held on Sunday with the boys competing Monday. Both districts will be held at Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted at noon.
