SWIMMING

Robb, Paris set meet records in Division II sectional

AKRON

West Branch senior Jamyson Robb and Canfield’s Jason Paris set meet records Friday Division II sectional swimming and diving championships at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium on Friday. Robb set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke and also won the 200 individual medley and Paris helped the Canfield boys win the team title. Robb’s time of of 1:05.17 in the 100 breastroke broke a record set by Danielle Marghere in 2011. Robb also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.63. McDonald freshman Brooklyn Bokan placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:04.15) and third in the 100 freestyle (56.69). The Canfield boys quartet of Bobby Kutsch, James Dietz, Luke Dietz and Jason Paris won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:22.56 to surge to a team sectional title with 306 points. Paris won the 50 freestyle with a meet-record time of 22.19, topping Braden Baylor’s time of 22.91 set last year. Canfield’s 200 medley relay team of Connor Frtiz, Joe Klepec, Robby DiDomenico and Matthew Peckman placed second (1:45.59). Canfield’s Kutsch, James Dietz, Matthew Peckman and Paris won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.90. Howland’s Jared Mindek (2:02.27) and Hubbard’s Dominic Panozzo (2:04.15) took the top two spots in the 200 IM. Mindek also won the 100 breaststroke (59.33) and Panozzo was third (1:03.22). The highest-finishing Mahoning Valley girls team was Howland, which was fifth with 157 points. The Tigers’ Caitlyn Mindek, Rachel Delida, Corinne Daniels and Mia Pantalone were third in the 200 freestyle (1:45.28).

Daniel Kramer scored his 1,000th career point on his way to a 18-point performance. Braeden O’Shaughnessy scored a game-high 19 points for the Bulldogs. Brandon Strang led the Falcons with 16 points.

GIRARD

Kevin Traylor and Jared Laczko each scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats, who shut out the Indians in the second quarter. Carson Ryan scored 13 points. For the Indians, Austin Claussell’s 26 points included four 3-pointers.

CORTLAND

A.J. McClellan scored 12 points to lead Lakeview. Clay Lazzari added 10 for the Bulldogs. Hubbard was led by Cam Resatar with 10 points.

CANFIELD

Kyle Gamble and Conor Crogan each scored 14 points for the Cardinals. Brenden Bova and Brent Herrmann each scored 11 points while Joe Bruno netted 10. For the Tigers, Nathan Barrett led with 14 points.

Brandon Ford and Ethan Colbert scored 17 points each to lead Lakeside. Courtez Vaughn added 10 for the Dragons. Fitch was led by Todd Simons with 18 points.

Joe Abramovich scored a game-high 29 points, Nick Stahlman added 17 and Abe Bayus had 11 for the Golden Flashes. Raysean Hicks led the Red Devils with 21 points, Kevin Moore had 15 and Nick Kouros had 12.

Elijah Whiteside led the Vikings with 14 points. Walt Allie scored 13 points while Tyler Stephens, Benton Tennant and Connor Meyer each scored 11. For the Warriors, Gage Emery led with 13 points.

NEWTON FALLS

Adam Honeycutt and Gage Friend netted 16 each to lead Newton Falls (10-8). Josh Honeycutt added 15 and Joey Kline had 11. Crestview was led by Drake Golden with 15 points.

YOUNGSTOWN

Jordan Trowers scored 13 to lead Valley Christian. Melvin Neail added 11 and Lohron Brown and Milan Square chipped in with 10 each. Garfield was led by Kaidan Spade with 15 points.

Waterloo 51, Springfield 40

ATWATER

The Vikings outscored the Tigers 36-11 in the second half for the victory. Kyle Shockley led Waterloo with 18 points and Max Adelman and Kaleb Francis each had 10. Shane Eynon led Springfield with 12 points and Drew Clark had 11.

McDonald 72, Lowellville 54

LOWELLVILLE

Zach Rasile scored 27 points, including two 3-pointers for McDonald. Rasile surpassed his own school single season scoring record of 645 points, set last season. He now stands at 669 points this season. Jake Portolese added 16 points. Cam Tucker and Josh Celli also got into double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Matt Hvisdak scored 25 to lead Lowellville. Dylan Durkin added five 3-pointers, and 17 points overall for the Rockets.

Mineral Ridge 79, Sebring 77

MINERAL RIDGE

Joe Rozzi scored 22 to lead Mineral Ridge. Jordan and Koby Zupko added 14 points each and Maurice Clark was also in double figures with 12 points. Gabe Lanzer scored 24 points to lead Sebring. Joey Clark scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Clark’s four 3-pointers helped him eclipse the Sebring single season record for 3-point field goals made. Clark now has 71 3-pointers, beating the previous mark of 68 set by Joe James (2005). Zane Peterson was also in double figures with 16 and Jake Hunter had 10.

Marlington 65, Salem 55

SALEM

Andrew Pucci led the Dukes (10-8, 7-4 Eastern Buckeye Conference) with 20 points. Also scoring in double figures were Blane Himmelheber with 18 and Cameron Bennett with 14. For the Quakers (5-13, 3-8), Josh Young scored 20 points and Niko Walter 15.

EAST PALESTINE

Parker Sherry scored 15 points for the Bulldogs who wiped out a 25-13 halftime deficit. Dom Posey scored 11 points. For the Beavers, Luke Chetock scored 13 points and Logan Reed 11.

WELLSVILLE

Landon Baker had 25 points and 15 rebounds to lead United (10-9). Parker Hydrick added 22 points. Justin Wright scored 18 to lead Wellsville. Derrick Suggs added 14 and Eli Dieringer scored 10 for the Tigers.

TORONTO

Karaffa scored 23 points and West added 21 as the Red Knights (16-1) outlasted the Blue Devils in overtime. The teams were tied at 53 after regulation. Justin Sweeney led Lisbon (9-9) with 25 points. Ryan McCullough added 10.

Nick May led Southern with 17 points. Camren Grodhaus added 14 for the Indians. Joey Donforio and Ronnie Matthews had 14 points each for Heartland Christian.
