Olson, Herubin commit to EGCC baseball

YOUNGSTOWN

Braden Olson of Poland High School and Max Herubin of Mundelein, Ill., have committed to play baseball for Eastern Gateway Community College, Gators coach John Zizzo announced.

Olson is a second baseman-pitcher who earned All-American Conference honors as a sophomore for the Bulldogs in 2017.

He sat out his junior season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

“We’re really excited to have Braden begin his college career at EGCC,” Zizzo said. “He is one of the top middle infielders in the area and has the ability to contribute on the mound as well. He has a mid-to-upper 80 mph fastball and quality command of his secondary pitches.”

Herubin is a pitcher-catcher and helped lead Carmel High School to a 17-9 record last season as members of the East Suburban Catholic League.

“Max has three years’ experience as a starter at the high school level,” Zizzo said. “On a personal note, I’m thrilled to add Max to the fold and have him committed to EGCC this fall because his father, Joe, is an Ursuline High School graduate who pitched for me at Youngstown State.”
