BSA to celebrate 109th birthday
Boy Scouts of America will mark its 109th birthday Friday with troops, packs, posts and crews celebrating, from fashioning Scouting uniforms to serving in religious ceremonies for Scout Sabbath on Saturday and Scout Sunday on Sunday.
Not all religious institutions celebrate on those exact days so Scouts will be celebrating these occasions throughout the entire month of February. Scout Jumuah will take place Feb. 8 which is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting within the Muslim community.
As of Feb. 1, the BSA has launched the Scouts BSA program that now includes girls ages 11 to 17. Girls were welcomed into the Cub Scouting program (ages kindergarten to fifth grade) last fall and joined two other programs that already included young women, the Exploring Program (a career-based program) for young men and women ages 14 to 20; and the Venturing Program (a high adventure-based program) also for young men and woman ages 14 to 20 years old.
Anyone who would like to join Scouting or for information should call the Great Trail Council Scout office at 330-773-0415 or visit www.gtcbsa.org.
For information about all the Scouting programs in the Mahoning County area, contact John Brkic, Whispering Pines District Director, at 330-773-0415 ext. 230 or at John.Brkic@scouting.org.
