Waterline breaks plague multiple locations in Valley

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Water departments around the Mahoning Valley worked Friday and Saturday to repair waterlines that broke after temperatures rose in the wake of last week’s sub-zero temperatures.

Warren Water Department worked on nine breaks Friday and Saturday, said Safety Service Director Enzo Cantalamessa.

A broken waterline closed a portion of Elm Road beside Sunrise Inn Restaurant starting about 10 a.m. Saturday, but is now fixed.

Other breaks that were fixed were on Devon Street, Garden Street, Tod Avenue, Burton Street and Hillsdale Drive. Crews were still working on others as of 9 p.m. Saturday.

Workers at Brookfield schools had to clean up water resulting from broken pipes in the middle school Saturday morning, according to TV-21 WFMJ, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Later Saturday a sprinkler system broke, causing water damage in Brookfield Elementary School.
