Garden club to host Winter Seminar

The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will host its 14th Annual Winter Seminar from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 16 in the D.D. and Velma Davis Education & Visitor Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks. Cost is $65 per person and includes lunch and dessert.
This year’s theme is “Gardening Potpourri – a Mix of Gardening Topics from Trees to Turf and In Between.” The speakers will be Scott Zanon, Irvin Etienne and Louis Raymond.
Zanon is the owner of Desirable Trees & Turf and author of “Landscaping with Trees in the Midwest – A Guide for Residential and Commercial Properties.” He provides advice and services to the green industry regarding trees and turf grass issues. His presentation will be “Landscaping with Trees in the Midwest.”
Etienne is the horticulture display director for the Indianapolis Museum of Art and is a writer for Fine Gardening and Indiana Gardening magazines. His experience is in container and rooftop gardening, ornamentals, shrubs, perennials and more. His presentation will be “Carmen Miranda in the Midwest – a Focus on Attention-getting Color and Texture from Annuals and Tropicals.”
Raymond, also known as “the plant geek,” is a garden designer who writes horticulture articles at LouisThePlantGeek.com. His presentations will be “Uncommon and Astonishing,” “From Sows’ Ears to Silk Purses” and “Potted.”
