YSU track athletes win events at WATTS
YOUNGSTOWN
Senior Nicolette Kreatsoulas, sophomore Pierlus Stewart, and freshman Olivia Jones picked up wins as the rest of the Penguins had solid performances on the first day of competition at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational from the WATTS.
Kreatsoulas won the weight throw with a toss of 16.95m on her first throw of the afternoon. Stewart won the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.84, and Jones won the pentathlon with 3,410 points, the third most in school history. Jones earned 871 points in the 60 hurdles, 783 points in the high jump, 536 points in the shot put, 617 points in the long jump, and 603 points in the 800m.
Jessica Stever placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.42m on her second attempt. Stever finished behind Robert Morris long jumper Zoe Roush who had a jump of 5.51.
The YSU men finished third in the DMR behind Canisius and Geneva with a time of 10:34.51.
Joe Pfeffer earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 16.34m.
Jennifer Muhlenkampand Tyler Polmanboth finished fourth in the 5,000m. Polman finished in 15:13.08 while Muhlenkamp clocked a time of 17:56.97.
The YSU National Mid-Major Invitational resumes at 10 a.m. today with the various field events and the continuation of the men’s hepthalon.
Other notable YSU performances included: Kaitlyn Merwinfifth in the weight throw with a personal-best (15.59); Caitlyn Trebellafifth in the pole vault (3.41); Zach Gehmfifth in the weigh throw (16.29); Katlyn Griffiesixth in the pole vault (3.41); and Reshanna Simonsixth in the weigh throw (14.75).
