Mahoning County Public Health District will offer a free chronic pain self-management program from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 4 at Mauthe Park, 156 Smithfield St. The course consists of six weekly sessions and will end Oct. 9.

The educational program developed by Stanford University helps individuals age 60 and older learn proven strategies to manage chronic pain and feel better.

Participants will receive a free book, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain.” The program provides tools and ideas to complement medical treatments and other efforts to manage pain. To register for the free program or for information, call 330-270-2855, ext. 109.

2019 Buddy Walk

Buddy Walk of the Valley 2019 is Sept. 22 at Eastwood Field with gates opening at 11 a.m. and the Buddy Walk beginning at 1 p.m.

The event is Down Syndrome Association of the Valley’s main fundraiser. More than 2,500 people attend this walk that raises money via pledges, sponsors and entrance fees. Visit Dsav.org details and online registration.

Net proceeds from DSAV Buddy Walk of the Valley 2019 go directly to programs and services provided by the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley for individuals with Down syndrome throughout Eastern Ohio and Western Pa.

There are six ways to participate in the Buddy Walk: create a team; join an already-formed team; ask to be placed on the DSAV home team; be a sponsor; host an activity sponsored by a business or club; or attend as a spectator by paying a $13 entrance fee at the gate.
