Scrappers come back to cut down Crosscutters

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored four runs to cap a comeback and beat the Williamsport Crosscutters 5-4 on Friday night.

The Scrappers (33-32) trailed 4-1 heading into the eighth. They scored runs on a Bryan Lavastida double, a Yainer Diaz groundout, a Johnathan Rodriguez triple and after Jonathan Lopez reached on an error.

Brayan Rocchio got the Scrappers on the board with an RBI single in the third inning.

Run-scoring singles by Jake Holmes and Hunter Hearn gave Williamsport the lead in the fourth. Nate Fassnacht’s first home run of the year increased the lead to 3-1.

Jose Oca’s wild pitch in the seventh scored Herbert Iser.

Oca (3-0) allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits and two walks. He struck out two in 2 1/3 innings. Jerson Ramirez recorded five straight outs for his fifth save.

The Scrappers and Crosscutters will play the final game of their series today. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
