Guild will celebrate Sewing Month

The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will host Joanne Banko for a one-day seminar that will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St. Banko is a freelance sewing educator, online sewing instructor and author of several books. Cost is $28 for members and $35 for nonmembers and includes “Chicken in the Garden” box lunch. Bottled water and coffee will be provided.

Banko will share some behind the scenes information from the taping of the TV show, “It’s Sew Easy,” and will present “Sew Creative” with tips, tricks and techniques for embellishing garments, home decor, crafts and more. Church to host annual picnic

The Holy Ghost Macedonian Orthodox Church annual picnic will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave. There will be music, food, silent auction and a door prize.

Children’s carnival set for Sunday

Girard Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road, will host a free Children’s Carnival from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Jungle Terry will present a Jungle Animal Program including a variety of animals and reptiles at 2:30 p.m. There will be games, food and free school supplies for children from kindergarten through sixth grade. Cultural Center to host picnic Sunday

The Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeastern Ohio will host a “Mock Village Wedding” and picnic at 11 a.m. Sunday at 12027 Abbott Road. Admission is $6 per person and children under age 12 enter free. Foods will include stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, potatoes, langos, Hungarian gulyas, pastries and more. Music will be provided by Harmonia from 2 to 6 p.m.
