Canfield library hosted its weekly Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books event for children ages 6-23 months-old.

Children’s librarian Amanda Kollar hosted the event for six children and their family members.

“We are trying to build early literacy skills through songs and rhymes and stories,” Kollar said.

During the event, Kollar gives each parent an outline of the class that includes songs and a literacy tip.

“That way they can continue building these skills at home,” Kollar said.

Kollar kicked off the event with a couple of songs. Parents sang along with Kollar and helped their children move to the songs.

Kollar also read a number of books to children gathered at the event.

After 20 minutes of songs and books, Kollar said the group spends 10 minutes playing with toys.

“Play helps children learn how to socialize,” Kollar said.

Canfield’s Baby Brilliant event is offered every Thursday at 10 a.m.
