Austintown Township hosted their annual Fourth of July parade on the holiday. Part of the event included a float competition.

During the competition, local business owner Bruce Shepas was the chairman of the event.

“The biggest change we made was moving the competition from 2 p.m. to noon,” Shepas said. “This way everyone can get to their barbecues or family events sooner.”

He said that more than 100 organizations participated in the parade this year.

“The attendance has also grown substantially due to the time change,” Shepas said.

The theme of the parade this year was “Austintown...how sweet it is,” and Jim Molnar, of Molnar’s Concessions, was the Grand Marshall.

The parade also hosted its annual float competition.

The winner once again was Joanna Parker, with West Side Tire.

She will receive $250 and a plaque.
