Playhouse presents play about 1919 steel strike

The Youngstown Playhouse will present “Father K” in conjunction with the Historical Center of Industry and Labor.

Performances of the special event production will take place in the Playhouse’s Moyer Room at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and also Aug. 23 and 24; and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Father K” was written by Pittsburgh native Charlie Peters.

It tells the powerful and true story of Father Adalbert Kazincy, a Slovak priest in Braddock, Pa., who stood firm for workers and his own parish during the Great Steel Strike of 1919. The production is timed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the strike.

Longtime Playhouse performer and current board member Charles Simon is the director of the production, with Susi Thompson assisting as stage manager.

The cast, led by Terry Shears as Father Kazincy, includes Josh Beacom, Connie Cassidy, Paul Dahman, Lori George, Amy-Ann Kibler, Eric Kibler, Alan McCreary, Sam Perry, Bill Rees, Jeanine Rees and Denise Sculli.
