Scrappers score early to down Doubledays

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to beat the Auburn Doubledays 11-4 on Friday at Eastwood Field. It was the Scrappers’ second straight win.

The Doubledays (20-32) scored four runs in the top of the second on a wild pitch, an RBI double by Adalberto Carrillo and a two-run single by Landerson Pena.

Will Brennan drove in the go-ahead run on a two-run single with the Scrappers (24-29) trailing 4-3.

Mahoning Valley scored three runs in the fifth to push the game out of reach.

Matt Waldron (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings of relief. He allowed two hits and struck out seven without a walk.

Rafael Gomez (1-4) lasted just 12/3 innings. He allowed eight runs on nine hits and two walks. Gomez struck out two.

Bryan Lavastida drove in two runs for Mahoning Valley and scored a run. Michael Cooper and Yainer Diaz both finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Scrappers and Doubledays will play the final game of the series today. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
