The Friends of Poland Forest are inviting the public to a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Poland Public Library, 311 S. Main St., in the meeting room. Dr. Ian Renne of YSU’s Biology Department, a Forest Board member, will speak about white-tailed deer in Poland Forest and their impact on forest ecology. A Friends membership meeting will follow the lecture, including election of officers by paid members. All are invited to join. For information, call 330-770-4364.
Hop Harvest Festival

Lamppost Farm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using agriculture to reach and teach others through education, hospitality, stewardship, discipleship and quality food, and Birdfish Brewing Co. invite the community to celebrate Hop Harvest Festival 2019 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at 14900 Market Street. The festival celebrates friends, family and the value of collaborations. A free community event, the festival features samplings of Birdfish Brewing Co. brews for purchase (must be 21 years of age to participate), Lamppost Farm’s cob-oven pizzas and grilled meats for $10/serving, complimentary family-friendly activities, including hayrides, disc golf, bull chip bingo, yard game tournaments and more, and live entertainment. The Farm Store will be open throughout the event so guests can shop for high-quality grass-fed/pastured meat and poultry products, Lamppost signature t-shirts and works by local artisans. Church will give away clothing and supplies

Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, will host its annual family clothing and school supplies giveaway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17, in the fellowship hall.
Woodstock presentation set
SALEM
Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a presentation in honor of the 50th anniversary of Woodstock from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Dr. Ewelina Boczkowska, of the Music Department of Youngstown State University, will look back on that time of “Peace, Love and Rock-n-Roll” in the Adult Reading Area.
