First Friday of Greater Youngstown Speaker Series will host an evening dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Dr. Faggioli, professor of historical theology at Villanova University in Philadelphia will speak on “From Vatican II to the Sexual Abuse Crisis: The Challenges for the Catholic Church – Political, Institutional and Theological.” There will be an opportunity for participants’ questions afterward. Monday Night Writers will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Small Meeting Room at the Canfield Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, 43 W Main St, Canfield. Trumbull County Travel Club has the following trips planned: Wednesday, the oddities of the Canton area; Sept. 9-17, vacation to South Dakota; and a Nov. 2 outing for a gingerbread tour in Pennsylvania. USA Dance Club will host a “Fun in the Sun” picnic and dance at 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Orthodox Center, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter makes Alzheimer’s caregiver support groups available free of charge, open to all caregivers, family members, and friends with a loved one with affected by the disease or another form of dementia. Salem Regional Medical Center will host a support group for area residents who have an ostomy as well as those who are preparing for ostomy placement. The group’s next monthly meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday in SRMC’s private dining room, located at the back of the cafeteria on the hospital’s ground floor. The group is led by SRMC’s Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse, and offers education, encouragement and emotional support for people with any type of ostomy, including those with permanent or temporary urostomies; ileostomies and colostomies. The group meets one Monday a month, and there is no cost. Family members and caregivers are welcome. Pre-registration for meetings is requested.
