Slovak Fest will return with live music, wine bar and in a new location

The 14th annual Mahoning Valley Slovak Fest will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in a new location – the Byzantine Center, 3801 Shady Run Road.
The day will begin with a Slovak-English Mass. It will also include games for children and a new wine bar and bistro, featuring Slovak foods.
Music will be performed by Jack Vasko and Co. at noon, and Del Sinchak at 4 p.m.
The event will also include vendors and a basket auction. Because the festival is indoors, it will take place rain or shine.
Oakland theater presents ‘Beauty and the Beast’

The Oakland Center for the Arts and its Kids First Theatre Initiative will present “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” for six performances over two-consecutive weekends at Trinity Fellowship Church, 4749 South Ave.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and also Aug. 16 and 17; and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and also Aug. 18.
Tickets are $15 ($5 for students of any age, free for children 4 and under) and on sale now at Oaklandcenter.info. They will also be sold at the door. All seats general admission.
The production, which features a large cast, is directed by Brendan Byers, the Oakland’s executive director, and assisted by Connor Pavlicko, the Oakland’s Acorn Project.

Shrine Club prepares annual motorcycle run
NORTH LIMA
The Youngstown Shrine Club will host its annual motorcycle run on Sunday. Sign ups start at 10:30 a.m. with the first bike leaving at noon from the club at 1735 S. Range Road.
Tickets are $15 and include a door prize ticket and meal ticket. Additional door prize tickets can be purchased for $10. Grand prize is a cruise for two. There will also be a basket raffle, entertainment and a 50-50 drawing.
At the first stop, Hollywood Gaming members will receive $10 in free slot play and new member sign-ups will receive $25 in free slot play. For information or tickets, contact George at 330-550-2680.
Event is seeking amateur and student chalk artists
COLUMBIANA
Columbiana Chalk on Main, which will take place Aug. 24-25 downtown, is seeking amateur and student chalk artists.
Amateur artist will be given a space of up to six feet by six feet to create sidewalk art in chalk. Students will be given up to a four-foot by four-foot space. Pre-registered artists will receive a box of pastels.
This is a family-friendly event; no nudity, profanity or political art statements will be accepted. Artists are asked to please submit a concept or sketch of their planned drawing.
There will be an amateur chalk artist contest, judged by professional artists, with prizes awarded in both categories
