Playhouse sets auditions for ‘Art’

YOUNGSTOWN

Auditions for the Youngstown Playhouse’s production of “Art” will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the theater, which is off Glenwood Avenue. Callbacks, if necessary, will be Wednesday.

“Art” is being directed by Frank Martin. All roles are open. The cast calls for two women and one man: Simone, age 35-50; Marion, age 35-50; and Yvan: age 30-40.

Rehearsals will begin Aug. 12. Performances will be in the Moyer Room Sept. 27-Oct. 6.

Written by Yasmina Reza, “Art” is the winner of two Moliere Awards and a Tony Award. It tells the story of three friends, one of whom purchases an expensive piece of art which prompts divided opinions within the group and becomes a source of conflict.

Exhibit showcases portraits of pets

“The Art of Your Pet: Portraits by Bill Dotson,” an exhibit in the upstairs gallery hall of the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., is on display through Nov. 10.

Dotson, a Youngstown native, has a decades-long career drawing realistic portraits in ink. He is known for his likenesses of sports figures and celebrities.

His pet portraits were first exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art in 2007, where he regularly added live drawing demonstrations. Dotson will also be in-residence at various times throughout “The Art of Your Pet” exhibit.

Antique toy buyer is in town today

Joel Magee, a vintage toy expert who appears on the History Channel show “Pawn Stars,” will host a vintage toy buying show from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Hampton Inn, 880 North Canfield Niles Road. Admission and parking are free.

Magee will offer on-the-spot cash payments for popular toys from the 20th century and earlier.
