Sentencing set for today in October 2017 shooting death
YOUNGSTOWN — Sentencing is set for this afternoon for a man who pleaded guilty to several charges today for an October 2017 shooting death on the West Side.
Jesse Stewart, 20, is pleading guilty in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The pleas head off a jury trial that was expected to start today before Judge Anthony Donofrio.
Stewart is accused of the Oct 18, 2017 shooting death of Evan Amos, 22, who was killed after answering a knock on tje side door of his South Lakeview Avenue home.
Police said Amos was killed because the Stewart and another man wanted to rob Amos.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to a sentence of 25 years.
A co-defendant in the case had already pleaded guilty.
