The Canfield library hosted the Hillbilly Silly Science show on July 12.
Performer Dr. Cletus Beaker MD and his assistant Junior put on a show demonstrating a number of the science projects for the upcoming science fair.
“Now a-days, kids tend to zone into their video games and electronics,” Beaker said. “This is a way to get them interested in science.”
During the show, Beaker brought up a number of volunteers from the audience to assist in the show.
He performed a number of experiments, including using a home made wind vortex cannon, and a spinning disc to create an optical illusion.
After each experiment Beaker would explain the science behind the project.
He taught children about tunnel vision, chemical combination and other scientific concepts.
“It’s all hands on science, it’s a way to get children involved and get their hands dirty,” Beaker said.
The show is based out of Wisconsin and travels across the United States.
Beaker said the group is available for birthday parties, library events and many more.
