Club to host Motorcycle Run next Sunday

The Youngstown Shrine Club will host its annual Motorcycle Run on Aug. 11. Signups start at 10:30 a.m. with first bike out at noon from the club at 1735 W. South Range Road. Tickets are $15/rider and/or passenger and include a door prize ticket and meal ticket. Additional door-prize tickets can be purchased for $10. Grand prize is a Norwegian Cruise for two presented by Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course. There will be a basket raffle, entertainment, a 50-50 drawing, food and fellowship. Upon arrival at the first stop, current Hollywood Gaming members will receive $10 in free slot play and new member sign-ups will receive $25 in free slot play. All vehicles are welcome and riders and non-riders are invited to attend.

NAACP to celebrate 100 years in October

NAACP Youngstown/Mahoning County branch will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. Since 1919, civil rights services have been provided to the Youngstown area. The Freedom Fund Banquet will take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 4 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Banquet Hall, 343 Via Mt. Carmel Ave. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ron Daniels, founder and president of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century and the guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Robin Woodberry of New Bethel Baptist Church. The theme for the evening is “Educational Excellence = Economic Empowerment for the 21st Century.” The NAACP will honor Mayor Jamael Tito Brown, councilman Julius Oliver, commissioner Anthony Traficanti, judge Carla Baldwin, Cossell Burton, Genny Mason, president of city council DeMaine Kitchen, representative Michele Lepore-Hagan, community activist Jon Howell and Dr. Martha I. Bruce with the NAACP Community Service Award.
Buster’s Brigade to host 5K Dash

Buster’s Brigade with host Buster’s 5K Dash on Aug. 11 at Boardman Park. Packet pickup will be at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9. Cost is $20 and includes lunch. Proceeds will assist dogs and cats of the Mahoning County and surrounding counties. For information, call Trish at 330-717-2151.
Buster’s Brigade provides financial and material assistance for the basic and emergency needs of dogs and cats, in rescue or homes of Mahoning County and surrounding areas, with the goal of helping more people keep their pets at home in a healthy environment.
YBP to host artist at gardens

Yellow Brick Place will host Walter Herman, an earthworks artist, from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25 at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks. Gettin’ Crafty set for Aug. 12
SALEM
The Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will present its next Gettin’ Crafty class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12, in the Quaker Room. The class will learn to recycle and give new life to ceramic tiles. All materials will be provided. The program is free and open to the public.
