SENIOR CITIZENS


Lowellville Senior Citizens will meet at noon Friday at Lowellville City Hall Conference Room. Lunch will be provided. For reservations, call Paula Kacic at 330-718-2856. Brenda Perry, president, will preside. New members are welcome; Lowellville residency is not a requirement. Dues of $10 are being accepted. Bingo and a 50-50 raffle will follow the business meeting. The June meeting will be a Strawberry Ice Cream Festival, and members are asked to invite a friend.

Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet May 8 at Drake’s Landing Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Social hour will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:45 followed by the meeting and program. Susan Harris will preside. The program will include the annual “In-Memoriam” by Sally Winsen, “In-Remembrance” by Martha Lopez, and the recognition of all members who are 90 and older. Entertainment will be provided by the Struthers choir. The community service collection will aid the Down Syndrome Association of Mahoning Valley. Grilled chicken salad or the buffet lunch, which includes herb-baked chicken, pasta, red potatoes, broccoli, tossed salad and strawberry dessert, will be served. PERI Chapter 56 will host its annual district 11 meeting May 22 at DiLucia’s, 2610 Elm Road NE, Warren. Registration will take place from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., and closing remarks start at 2 p.m. OPERS director Karen Carraher and retired Ohio Retirement Study Council president Aristotle Hutras are the guest speakers. Trumbull County AFSCME Retirees Subchapter 128 will meet at 1 p.m. May 13 at United Steelworker’s Local 2155 Carl Dittmer Hall, 1265 N. Main St., Niles. Robert Fenn, public relations specialist, from the Akron office of the Social Security Administration, will be the guest speaker and will discuss the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset laws as they currently exist and their impact on public employees and their spouses.
