Elliot wins 100-meter dash at Penn Relays

Youngstown State junior Jaliyah Elliott walked out of the University of Pennsylvania with a watch and a signature win.
Elliott took home first place in the 100-meter dash at the 125th running of the Penn Relays on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field.
Junior Macklin Rose highlighted a successful day for the Penguins at the Jesse Owens Relays by setting the school record in the pole vault at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Penn Relays
Elliott clocked a time of 11.60 seconds in the race to beat N.C. Centrals Bethany White who finished in 11.71 seconds.
Chad Zallow finished third in 110m hurdles championship with a time of 14.03 seconds. South Carolina’s Isiaiah Moore won the event with a time of 13.79 seconds
Jesse Owens Relays
At Ohio State University, Rose initially broke the school record in the pole vault when he cleared 4.91 on his first attempt before ultimately setting the new program record at 4.96, finishing sixth in the event. Dylan Latone (4.66), Jett Murphy (4.51) and Wyatt Lefker (4.51) also competed in the event for the Penguins.
On the women’s side, Katlyn Griffie was the highest finisher after clearing the bar at 3.53 on her first attempt. Caitlyn Trebella (3.53), Shelby Marken (3.53) and Denise Machamer (3.38) also competed.
Cole Smith finished 11th in the 110 hurdles at 14.75 seconds, while freshman Ethan Sparks ran a time of 1:57.31 in the 800.
Zach Gehm finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 53.15. Andrew Hallof also competed in the event for the Penguins, recording a mark of 42.18.
On the women’s side, Sammy Dyson finished 10th with after throwing the discus 43.04 on her third attempt
Dom Westbay won the college/open section of the men’s shot put after recording a mark of 17.75. His throw moved him into fourth in the record book. Brandon Orlando threw the shot 16.48 on his way to a sixth-place finish.
In the women’s shot put, Kaitlyn Merwin recorded a fourth-place finish after throwing the shot 14.57 on her fifth attempt of the afternoon.
The Penguins return to the track Friday when they host the Horizon League Outdoor Championships at Farmers National Bank Field.
