Broadway series includes ‘Beautiful’

The 2019-20 Broadway in Akron series includes four hit shows, including the two-time 2014 Tony Award-winner “Beautiful – The Carole King Musical.”

All shows will do two-night stands at E.J. Thomas Hall. Season ticket packages range from $40 to $295 and include an optional payment plan. Go to broadwayinakron.com or call 216-241-6000.

Here is the schedule:

SDLqFiddler on the Roof,” Oct. 15-16: Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher and the team behind “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and 2017 Tony-winning Best Play “Oslo,” bring a fresh vision to this beloved theatrical masterpiece.

“Beautiful – The Carole King Musical,” Nov. 18-19: The inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband, Gerry Goffin, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. The soundtrack also won the 2015 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

“The Color Purple,” Feb. 11-12, 2020: Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, this joyous American classic has conquered Broadway once again.

“Waitress,” April 28-2, 2020: Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker, dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life. This Tony Award-nominated show features original music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles.
