Gardening Workshop

When: Today, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What: Learn from two keynote presentations on home landscape design and vines for the landscape. Do a make-and-take alcohol ink tile for the garden, choose from six breakout sessions, and win door prizes. Garden Art Sale all day. Handmade items by master gardener volunteers.

Where: Canfield Fairgrounds, Arts & Crafts Building7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Cost: $40 per person, includes hot lunch.

Book Festival

When: Today, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What: “Reading’s My Superpower” is the theme for the 13th annual book festival that includes authors, illustrators, book characters, storytellers, and hands-on activities for children.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown.

Cost: Free.

Wildflowers

When: Today, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Come out and enjoy the beauty of spring as we search for spring wildflowers. Moderate with some hills; 2.5 miles.

Where: Meet at Scholl Recreation Area, Bears Den Road, Youngstown.

Warbler Walk

When: Next Saturday, 8 to 10 a.m.

What: More than 25 of these tropical migrants were found in Mill Creek last May. Join naturalist Nick Parish as we look high and low for these beautiful birds as they return to their nesting grounds. Moderate, 1.25 miles.

Where: Suspension Bridge parking lot, Valley Drive, Youngstown.

Cost: Free. Registration deadline by Thursday at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Garden Club Talk

Tractor-Wagon Rides

When: May 5, 1 to 4 p.m.

What: Bring the family for a guided tractor-wagon tour of the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm leaving approximately every half-hour. Barns are open to visit the animals. Dress for the weather.

Where: MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield.

Cost: Craft fee $1; cash only.

Tree Talk

When: May 7, 6:30 to 8 p.m.

What: Join us for the next event in the naturalist series. Have you ever wondered how trees handle their enemies? And if they talk to each other? Join us as Enrico Bonello, professor, molecular and chemical ecology of trees at Ohio State University’s Center for Applied Plant Sciences, tells us about these fascinating aspects of the trees in the forest and your backyard.
