The Boardman Local School Board voted unanimously to hire Marco Marinucci as the district’s next athletic director.

Marinucci, of Boardman, will replace Denise Gorski, who is retiring in June. Marinucci’s three-year contract begins on July 1.

Marinucci currently serves as principal for grades five through 12 at Windham Local Schools, and has more than 30 years experience in the valley as a math teacher, coach, athletic director and administrator. He was selected from more than 40 applicants to lead Boardman’s athletic program.

A Boardman High School graduate, Marinucci earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Youngstown State University and his Masters in Science and Classroom Instruction at Ashland University. He also holds an Administrative Certificate from the University of Dayton. Over the years, he has coached softball at Boardman for a decade, as well as other area coaching positions in volleyball and basketball. Marinucci has also served as athletic director at Rayen and East in the Youngstown City Schools.

“We knew it would be a challenge to replace a successful hands-on A.D. like Denise, but we believe that Marco has the skill set and school experiences to continue what Denise has built,” said Superintendent Tim Saxton.

“I am honored and excited to be a part of a rich tradition of athletics, academics and arts at Boardman High School, and to follow the lead of such exemplar athletic directors prior to me,” Marinucci said. “I am looking forward to being a part of continuing the excellence of Boardman athletics.”

Marinucci resides in Boardman with his wife Janie, a teacher at Boardman High School. They have two children who are also Boardman graduates.
