Tampa Bay ace Blake Snell lasted 31/3 innings as the Rays were beaten by the Kansas City Royals. Snell (2-2) allowed three runs, five hits, two walks and struck out three. Adalberto Mondesi hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs, and Jakob Junis (2-2) gave up one run and four hits in five innings for the Royals.

Astros 7, Twins 1

HOUSTON

Justin Verlander pitched eight dominant innings, and Carlos Correa, Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick all homered to lead the Houston Astros over the Minnesota Twins. Verlander (4-0) gave up one run and four hits while striking out eight. Kohl Stewart (0-1) allowed five runs and eight hits in six innings.

Orioles 4, White Sox 3

BALTIMORE

Stevie Wilkerson hit his first major league homer, John Means pitched five effective innings and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox. Means (3-2) allowed one run and four hits with a career-high six strikeouts. Ervin Santana gave up four runs in 42/3 innings.

Red Sox 11, Tigers 4

BOSTON

J.D. Martinez had three hits and Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six strong innings as the Boston Red Sox and beat the Detroit Tigers. Christian Vazquez had two RBI singles. Rodriguez (2-2) gave up a run on two hits, striking out seven and walking three. Tyson Ross (1-3) allowed four runs in five innings.

Athletics 6, Rangers 5

OAKLAND, CALIF.

Chad Pinder’s two-out RBI single in the ninth inning lifted the Oakland Athletics to a victory over the Texas Rangers. Chris Martin (1-1) took the loss. Matt Chapman and Marcus Semien homered for the A’s. Mazara homered twice for Texas and Logan Forsythe also went deep.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Diamondbacks 11, Pirates 2

PITTSBURGH

Ketel Marte homered twice and the Arizona Diamondbacks won at Pittsburgh for the ninth straight time, beating the Pirates. Merrill Kelly (2-2) gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings, walking two and striking out five. Jordan Lyles (2-1) lasted five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts.

Cubs 7, Dodgers 6

CHICAGO

Javier Baez and Jason Heyward each hit three-run homers in the sixth inning and the Chicago Cubs overcame a wild start by Cole Hamels to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pinch-hitter David Bote followed with a double to deep center against Scott Alexander (1-1). Brad Brach (2-0) got the final two outs in the sixth.

Cardinals 5, Brewers 2

ST. LOUIS

Adam Wainwright was warm enough on a cool day, allowing one run in six innings for his 150th career victory, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers. Jordan Hicks earned his seventh save. Jhoulys Chacin (2-3) allowed four runs on five hits.

Braves 3, Reds 1

CINCINNATI

Ozzie Albies homered on the game’s first pitch and the Atlanta Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds. Mike Soroka (1-1) struck out seven while allowing five hits and one run with three walks in 52/3 innings. A.J. Minter pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. Tanner Roark (1-1) allowed six hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.

Rockies 9, Nationals 5

DENVER

Raimel Tapia had two doubles and drove in three runs, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Washington Nationals. Nolan Arenado had three RBIs and Wade Davis picked up his third save. Juan Soto homered for the Nationals. German Marquez (3-1) went seven innings, allowing three runs.

Padres 1, Mariners 0

SAN DIEGO

Rookie Chris Paddack shut down baseball’s highest-scoring offense for his first victory as the San Diego Padres beat the AL West-leading Mariners. Paddack (1-1) allowed one hit in seven innings. Ian Kinsler homered off Felix Hernandez (1-2). Yates earned his 12th save.

Giants 4, Blue Jays 0

TORONTO

Pablo Sandoval homered for the second straight game, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Drew Pomeranz (1-2) allowed two hits, both singles, in six innings. Blue Jays right-hander Clay Buchholz (0-1) allowed four runs and six hits in five-plus innings.
