Beatitude House will host its 20th annual Wine Taste and Auction at 5:30 p.m. May 3 at The Embassy in Boardman. Platinum sponsors include the Muransky Companies and Astro Shapes Inc. Cleveland School of Hearing and Speech will sponsor a quarter auction at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Eagles Aerie 3298, 1655 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown. Admission is $5 at the door. Proceeds will benefit Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center, which services clients in 14 counties of Northeast Ohio, regardless of the ability to pay. Doors open at 6:30. St. Joseph the Provider School, Youngstown, will sponsor its annual basket and gift auction with a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Church, 357 N. BINGO

Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County will sponsor a bingo event May 19 at Sallmen’s Social Center, 110 East Division St., New Castle. Cost is $10 for pre-sold tickets. Holy Apostles Parish, 854 Wilson Ave., Youngstown, will host a Spring Fling Bingo and Card Party at 2 p.m. Sunday in the social hall. The event is sponsored by the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. CLASSES

Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a new workshop series at 1 p.m. May 4 at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown. The workshop will be, “Exploring Your Roots: An Introduction to Genealogy,” and is geared for the beginning genealogist. In addition to the workshop, attendees can schedule a two-hour private session with MVHS staff and subsequent visits to the Archives Library. Cost is $15 for MVHS members and $25 for nonmembers. Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau will host the 2019 Columbiana Wine Festival from 4 to 9 p.m. July 19 and from 2 to 9 p.m. July 20 in the Town Center at Firestone Farms, 101 Town Center Ave. The $1 each water and pop sales will benefit the Community Hospice. The event will feature live entertainment, food, artisan/vendors and wine selections from Barrel Run Crossing Winery & Vineyard, Luva Bella Winery, Mastropietro Winery, The Vineyards at Pine Lake and more. Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host its 13th annual “Plant the Seed to Read” Children’s Book Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks. The event, “Reading’s My Superpower,” will host authors, illustrators, storytellers, readers, giveaways and more. The event is free and open to the community.

FUNDRAISERS

Dogsmartz Unleashed, 1591 E. Western Reserve Road, Poland, will host its third annual open house from noon to 4 p.m. May 5. Girard Multi-Generational Center’s annual fundraiser “Cars are the Stars 5” will include two special raffles this year. Winners will be announced the day of the show, June 1 (rain date, June 8). Tickets to pre-register are $6 and must be purchased by May 17. Registration the day of the show will be $8 at the door and will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The show will be from 1 to 3. LIVE New Wilmington will sponsor The Tour de Donut, a bike ride that will take place June 8. Riders will depart from Memorial Field House at Westminster College. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and cost is $20 per rider, which includes a limited edition T-shirt. Various routes will include 10 miles, two 30-mile choices, and a hill challenge. Poland Historical Society will sponsor a bus trip to Pittsburgh on Sept. 18. The bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. from Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road, and will leave Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. for the return trip. The itinerary includes the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden, lunch at Schenley Park Cafe, a tour of the Frick Art & Historical Center and the Clayton Mansion. Trumbull County Travel Club will sponsor a motor coach mini vacation to Holland, Mich., from May 7 to 9. Holland, located on Lake Macatawa, plants millions of blooming tulips which will greet members in this town named the “Best Small Town Festival” in the USA. Reflecting on the area’s Dutch heritage, Windmill Island is on the agenda as well as the DeKlomp Wooden Shoe & Delft Factory tour. There will be time to experience traditional Klompen, photograph the Big Red Lighthouse and sit in comfortable seats for the Volksparade. Two breakfasts and two dinners are included along with the Fiddle Fire Show and the Dazzle Dinner Theater. The Travel Club is open to any person who wishes to travel and make new friends. There are no fees to join. The club has been together since 2000 and consists of people over 21. Members meet twice a year at area sites to discuss upcoming trips. All trips leave from one site and use motor coaches, trains, air and will sometimes incorporate cruising.
