Ohio sheriff: Human remains found in bag near road

WAVERLY, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff says human remains have been found in a large bag just a few yards off a road.

Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader says three mushroom hunters found the bag about 3 p.m. Monday and called authorities in the southwestern Ohio county.

Reader says his office is conducting a homicide investigation into the death. The sheriff says he has asked for assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to process and collect evidence from the scene.

Reader says the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will conduct the autopsy that should confirm the gender of the deceased.
