Yankees 9, Royals 2

NEW YORK

All-Star slugger Aaron Judge hurt his left oblique while taking a swing and likely was headed to the injured list as the New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals. Judge connected in the first, Clint Frazier had a solo drive in the second and Mike Tauchman and DJ LeMahieu homered on consecutive pitches in the fourth. Masahiro Tanaka (2-1) pitched seven innings of one-run ball. He took a shutout into the sixth before allowing a homer to Whit Merrifield to start the inning. Chris Owings homered for Kansas City.

Twins 6, Orioles 5, Game 1 Twins 16, Orioles 7, Game 2

BALTIMORE

Eddie Rosario extended his power surge with three home runs in a doubleheader sweep by the Minnesota Twins, who slammed a record-tying eight long balls against the Baltimore Orioles in a victory after hitting three in the opener. In Game 2, Jonathan Schoop connected off first baseman-turned-pitcher Chris Davis in the ninth. It was the Twins’ eighth homer of the night, matching their single-game mark set on Aug. 29, 1963. Nelson Cruz and C.J. Cron connected in the first inning off Alex Cobb (0-1). Martin Perez (2-0) gave up four runs in six innings for the Twins. Jose Berrios (3-1) made it through six innings, allowing four runs, eight hits and three walks.

Blue Jays 10, Athletics 1

OAKLAND, CALIF.

Toronto pitcher Matt Shoemaker injured his left knee in a rundown chase, and the Blue Jays went on to beat the Oakland Athletics. Rowdy Tellez and Brandon Drury hit back-to-back homers during a five-run fourth inning. Justin Smoak also homered for Toronto. Shoemaker was hurt while chasing Oakland’s Matt Chapman in the third inning. The 32-year-old starter appeared to injure his knee. Sam Gaviglio (2-0) threw four scoreless innings to win. Tellez homered off A’s starter Mike Fiers (2-2).

Red Sox 6, Rays 5

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

The Boston Red Sox won their first series this season when Andrew Benintendi hit a grand slam and a tiebreaking ninth-inning sacrifice fly in a win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Rick Porcello gave up two runs and six hits in 52/3 innings, Matt Barnes (2-0) won after allowing Yandy Diaz’s tying home run leading off the eighth, and Ryan Brasier got his fifth save in six chances after getting into trouble.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cardinals 10, Mets 2

ST. LOUIS

Miles Mikolas tossed eight stellar innings and also drove in two runs, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over the New York Mets. Jose Martinez had three hits and three RBIs and Paul Goldschmidt hit his eighth home run for St. Louis. Mikolas (2-1) allowed two runs and four hits. Chris Flexen (0-1) surrendered six runs and on seven hits in 41/3 innings. Martinez added a two-run double in the sixth. Goldschmidt hit a 464-foot solo home run off Paul Sewald in the eighth inning.

Diamondbacks 6, Cubs 0

CHICAGO

Zack Greinke pitched three-hit ball over six innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks supported him with three home runs in a victory over the Chicago Cubs Taylor Clarke worked the final three innings for a save in his major league debut, allowing one hit. Eduardo Escobar and David Peralta hit back-to-back solo homers against a shaky Yu Darvish (1-3) in the first. Darvish lasted five innings, allowing three runs and five hits.

Brewers 5 Dodgers 0

MILWAUKEE

Christian Yelich hit two home runs, pushing his major league-leading total to 13, and Chase Anderson pitched five shutout innings in a spot start as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ryan Braun added a three-run homer for the Brewers. Anderson (2-0) allowed just one hit, a single to Joc Pederson to lead off the game. Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-1) gave up six hits and two runs in 52/3 innings while walking one and striking out nine.

Marlins 9, Nationals 3

MIAMI

Curtis Granderson homered and the Miami Marlins busted out at the plate after changing hitting coaches, roughing up ace Max Scherzer in beating the Washington Nationals to win a series for the first time this season. Brian Anderson doubled twice for the Marlins. Granderson’s solo shot off Scherzer (1-3) in the fifth snapped a 3-all tie. Jose Urena (1-3) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Scherzer was tagged for seven runs — six earned — and 11 hits in 51/3 innings. The three-time Cy Young Award winner struck out nine and moved past Don Drysdale for 35th on the career strikeout list with 2,493.
