FOOTBALL

Mahoning Valley Coaches to host Recruiting Night

The Mahoning Valley Coaches Association will hold a Football Recruiting Night on April 29 at the MVR Restaurant.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

Expected to attend will be at least 40 college football coaches.

BASEBALL

West Branch 9, Crestwood 3

BELOIT

Justin Goode earned the win for the Warriors, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in five innings of work. Josh Meissner, Tanner Egli and Goode recorded two hits each and both scored for West Branch (11-5, 5-3). Egli had two RBIs.

Lisbon 11, Jackson-Milton 1

LISBON

Logan Bell struck out 16, allowing one run in a two-hitter for the Blue Devils. Bell also recorded three hits. Lisbon (7-8, 3-5 EOAC) scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Jaikep Entrikin had an RBI single in the inning to lead the run scoring. Harrison Lay took the loss for Jackson-Milton, allowing 11 runs on eight hits, striking out four in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Lakeview 11, Liberty 1

CORTLAND

Brendon Kilpatrick had three hits and drove in four runs for Lakeview. Kevin Ellsworth-Myers added two hits and four RBI and Jake Wilms had two hits and two RBI. Clay Lazzari pitched a complete game and struck out seven.

Struthers 8, Van Buren 7

STRUTHERS

Rob Tomko had two hits and two RBI for Struthers. Brandon Brenzai added a pair of hits and Hunter Stellato drove in two runs. Jared Laczko struck out seven over four innings for the Wildacats. Caden Lance had two RBI for Van Buren.

Mineral Ridge 13, Newton Falls 7

NEWTON FALLS

Kyle Bickerstaff had two hits for the Rams and Jake Teeters had a double with two RBIs. Payton Zupko picked up the win. Hayden Gazda had two hits for the Tigers.

McDonald 13, Sebring 1

SEBRING

Lucy Wolford struck out 10 and walked one in a one-hitter for the Blue Devils (9-3, 9-0 MVAC). Whaley struck out five while allowing 19 hits and one walk for the Trojans. Bri Callow went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two singles. Megan Ward had two triples and a double. Sarah Lorello had three singles. Chelsea Sutol, Wolford and Sierra Schrazer had two singles each. Ward and Callow had two RBIs each.

Hubbard 11, Mathews 5

VIENNA

Sydney Bowser had three hits, including a home run and two RBIs for Hubbard. Hannah Kist had four hits for the Eagles and Gillian Ryser and Kellie Leshnak drove in two runs each. Hailey Mangus had a hit and two RBIs for Mathews.

Salem 3, Elliott County (Ky.) 1

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.

Bailee Thorn hit a home run and triple while scoring two runs for the Quakers. Taylor Thorpe added two hits and Brooke Veglia doubled. Meg Rossero and Jessica Slocum had the other hits for Salem. Thorpe picked up the win, allowed just two hits and an unearned run while striking out 11 in the five-inning weather-shortened game.

Salem 6 Corry (Pa.) 2

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.

Bailee Thorn had two hits and stole two bases. Rylie Troy had a clutch two-out, two-strike two-run single that stretched Salem’s lead to 5-2. Taylor Thorpe had a double. The other Salem hits were Meg Rossero, Jessica Slocum, Madison Markovich and Hannah Kelm. Taylor Thorpe got the win going six innings, striking out nine in a shortened game.

Haley Eskra led Crestview (15-3) with four hits. Karsyn Moore fell a home run short of the cycle and Olivia Strank and Shianna Mathes had three hits each. Kaedyn Sutton pitched a complete game and struck out 10 for the Rebels.
