Canfield High School seniors Luke Pallante and Svetha Nallapaneni organized a students versus staff basketball game to serve as their National Honor Society service project on March 21.
Senior students from Tim Wensel’s prime time class took on several Canfield High School staff members.
Playing on the student team were Kyle Gamble, Jake Pitzer, Mike Dascenzo, Aidan Burcsak, Melvin Trent, Collin Leonard and Jad Jadallah. Playing on Canfield High School staff team were Richard Shields, Kristen Gennaro, Carrie Miller, Todd Muckleroy, Dan LaCivita, Michael Cochran and Cory Lanterman.
Admission to the game was two canned goods, with all donations going to Operation Blessing. Pallante and Nallapaneni will deliver the canned good to the organization at the Canfield Presbyterian Church.
“We used to hold a canned food drive during spirit week, but we haven’t in a while, so we wanted to use our project to collect canned goods. We also wanted to do something fun that everyone could participate in. We wanted the whole community to be able to take part,” Nallapaneni said.
Pallante, a Canfield High School basketball player, echoed Nallapaneni’s sentiments.
“We knew we wanted to do a canned food drive and wanted to do a project where more people would be able to participate,” Pallante said.
After a hard-fought game on the court, the Canfield High School staff came out on top with a final score of 36-32.
