Boys track team improves to 6-0 with victory over Lakeside

The Boardman High School boys track team improved its record to 6-0 with a victory over the Ashtabula Lakeside Dragons at Spartan Stadium by a score of 115-22 on April 9.

The Spartans opened the meet with a first place finish in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of sophomore Beau Gorby, sophomore Justin Maloney, sophomore Caydin Newberry and junior Alan Cuevas. The next event, the 110 meter hurdles, junior Brian Yauger placed first and freshman Trey DePietro was third. In the 100 meter dash, all three scoring spots went to the Spartans with senior Zach Hillard in first, senior Josh Rodriguez in second and junior Derrick Anderson in third. The 4x200 relay team of sophomore Brennan Stratton, junior Isaiah Suarez, Rodriguez and freshman DJ Evans placed first.

In the 1600 meter run, Gorby placed first, Maloney was second and junior Zander Schobel was third. The 4x100 meter relay team of Rodriguez, Hillard, Evans and Anderson placed first. In the 400 meter run, Suarez was first, Stratton was second and sophomore Cristian Ortiz placed third. Yauger placed first in the 300 hurdles and DePietro was third, and in the 800 meter run, Cuevas was second. Hillard was second in the 200 meter dash with Ortiz in third.

The 3200 meter run saw junior Mitchel Dunham place first, sophomore Frank Bero in second and Newberry in third. The 4x400 relay team of Stratton, Suarez, Cuevas and junior Manfred Kastiga closed the meet with a first place finish.

In the field events, junior Dave Merdich placed first in the shot put with junior Nikitas Missos in second and senior Nathan Cornelius in third. In the discus, Missos was first, Merdich was second and sophomore Jonah Bacho was third.

The high jump saw freshman Gerrick Angel place second and Anderson third. The long jump was won by senior Nick Torres, with sophomore Aiden Glatz in second and sophomore Tyreek Jackson in third. The pole vault was won by sophomore Ted Anzevino with sophomore Sam Cammack in second and junior Vi Kiet Lau in third.

The Boardman Track Meet MVP was senior Zach Hillard for his efforts in the sprint events.
