Beckwith sets four records at Ward Invitational

Boardman High School sophomore Micah Beckwith set four meet and stadium records at The 50th Ward Invitational held in East Palestine on April 6.

Beckwith won the seated 100 in a time of 20.79, the 400 in a time of 1:17, the 800 in a time of 2:41 and the shot put with a throw of 12-feet, 9-inches. Those marks will allow him to return to Columbus in June to compete in the OHSAA State Championship. Beckwith was a three-time All Ohio Athlete last year in the seated events.

The Spartans won the invitational with 112 points, followed by Crestview in second with 85 points and Warren Harding in third with 72.

Junior Brian Yauger placed first in 110 hurdles in a time of 16.49. The 4x200 meter relay team of junior Isaiah Suarez, sophomore Brennan Stratton, senior Josh Rodriguez and freshman DJ Evans placed third in a time of 1:34. Junior Mitchel Dunham placed first in the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:28. The 4x100 meter relay team of Rodriguez, Evans, senior Zach Hillard and junior Derrick Anderson placed eighth in a time of 46.93.

Sophomore Cristian Ortiz placed third in the 400 meter run with a time of 53.2 and sophomore Jonah Bacho was eighth at 54.7. Yauger was second in the 300 hurdles at 43.34 and freshman Trey DePietro was eighth in a time of 46.52.

Senior Payton Torres placed first in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:04 and Dunham was third in a time of 2:05. Suarez was third in the 200 meter run in a time of 23.54. Sophomore Beau Gorby and sophomore Justin Maloney placed third and fourth in the 3200 meter run in times of 10:34 and 10:36. The 4x400 meter relay team of Suarez, Stratton, Ortiz and Torres placed first in a time of 3:33.

In the field events, senior Nikitas Missos placed first in the discus. Junior David Merdich was second in the shot put and Missos was fourth. Sophomore Tyreek Jackson was sixth in the long jump and sophomore Aiden Glatz was seventh.
