Royals 4, White Sox 3, 10 innings

CHICAGO

Fiercely energetic Tim Anderson spiked his bat to celebrate a two-run home run and Kansas City’s Brad Keller responded by drilling him with a fastball, setting off a benches-clearing fracas in the Royals’ victory over the Chicago White Sox. Hunter Dozier led off the 10th with a tiebreaking homer against Nate Jones (0-1). Wily Peralta (2-1) worked two innings.

Twins 4, Blue Jays 1

MINNEAPOLIS

Nelson Cruz had two hits and two RBIs for Minnesota, helping Jake Odorizzi and the Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Odorizzi (1-2) struck out six in 52/3 innings. Blake Parker earned his fourth save. Blue Jays starter Trent Thornton (0-2) gave up six hits, four runs and three walks while striking out three.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 3

NEW YORK

Brett Gardner hit a grand slam off Ryan Brasier in the seventh inning for his 100th career home run, and the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox. J.D. Martinez homered and Christian Vazquez hit a two-run homer in the second for a 3-0 lead. Tommy Kahnle (1-0) got two outs for the win, and Aroldis Chapman earned his third save.

Rays 8, Orioles 1

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Brandon Lowe, Ji-Man Choi and Yandy Diaz homered and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles. Yonny Chrinos (3-0) gave up one hit in five scoreless innings get the win. He struck out six of the first seven batters he faced. Rio Ruiz hit a home run for the Orioles.

Rangers 5, Angels 4

ARLINGTON, TEXAS

Shin-Soo Choo delivered a tiebreaking two-run triple, and the Texas Rangers finished a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a victory. Texas closer Jose Leclerc earned his fifth save. Lance Lynn (2-1) allowed seven hits and three walks but just two runs in 52/3 innings. Matt Harvey (0-2) gave up five runs, four earned, and five hits in 41/3 innings.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cardinals 6, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE

Michael Wacha cooled off NL MVP Christian Yelich, Matt Carpenter and Marcell Ozuna each went deep, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers to avoid being swept. Wacha (1-0) struck out seven over six innings, allowing two runs and five hits. Jordan Hicks earned his fourth save.

Dodgers 3, Reds 2

LOS ANGELES

A.J. Pollock hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers tied the major league record by homering in their 32nd consecutive home game, beating the Cincinnati Reds. Pollock broke open a scoreless game when he connected off Sonny Gray (0-3). Walker Buehler (2-0) pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning. Kenley Jansen earned his fifth save.

Cubs 6, Marlins 0

MIAMI

Cole Hamels pitched seven strong innings and the Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins with a win. Hamels (3-0) allowed three hits and did not walk a batter. Daniel Descalso had two hits and three RBIs, Sandy Alcantara (1-2) allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings.

Diamondbacks 3, Braves 2, 10 innings

ATLANTA

Adam Jones worked a bases-loaded walk against Jesse Biddle in the 10th inning and also homered, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Atlanta Braves. Jones also homered in the fourth inning. Arizona’s Greg Holland earned his fourth save. Archie Bradley (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings for Arizona.

Phillies 3, Mets 2

PHILADELPHIA

Jake Arrieta pitched neatly into the ninth inning, Scott Kingery and Cesar Hernandez hit solo homers and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets. Hector Neris earned his second save. Arrieta (3-1) allowed two runs and six hits. Zack Wheeler (1-2) gave up three runs and five hits in seven innings.

Nationals 9, Giants 6

WASHINGTON

Juan Soto and Howie Kendrick hit first-inning home runs, Matt Adams and Kurt Suzuki connected in the seventh, and the Washington Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants. Jeff Samardzija (1-1) and the Giants trailed 4-0 in the second inning. Jeremy Hellickson (2-0) allowed two runs and five hits over 52/3 innings for the Nationals.
