Panthers pound Penguins in sweep

The Milwaukee baseball team took both games of a doubleheader to pull off the three-game sweep of Youngstown State.

The Panthers beat the Penguins 22-2 in the first game and 8-5 in the nightcap on Saturday at Kapco Park.

The Penguins have lost five of their last six games and suffered their first sweep in a Horizon League series this season.

Lucas Nasonti and Web Charles drove in runs for the Penguins in the first game.

YSU starter Gary Clift Jr. allowed two unearned runs in one-third of an inning.

Devin Rybacki scored on a balk in the botttom of the first inning and Mike Ferri scored later in the inning on a single by Trevor Schwecke.

The Panthers broke the game open with a nine-run fourth inning, increasing the lead to 13-0.

Travis Perry relieved Clift, but allowed 11 runs — 10 earned — in three innings.

Jared Reklaitis got the win, allowing two runs in 71/3 innngs for the Panthers.

In the series finale, the Penguins (8-28, 4-11) scored twice in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Blaze Glenn.

The Panthers (19-13, 8-6) tied the game at 3 with a two-run triple from Schwecke and a sacrifice fly from Joe Vyskocil in the third inning.

Glenn’s second two-run homer of the day gave the Penguins a 5-3 lead in the fifth.

The Panthers tied the game again in the home half of the fifth and took the lead in the seventh.

Jack Thelen hit the go-ahead RBI single to center field. Zach Noglaski followed with a two-run single to right-center field to increase the lead to 8-5.

YSU will travel to Pittsburgh for a single game on Tuesday before hosting Northern Kentucky on Thursday.

First pitch at Pittsburgh is scheduled for 3 p.m.
